( 1) Eating Salt

  1. A fool visited an old friend and both were happy to see each other.
  2. He was invited for dinner.
  3. Emmm … this food is not delicious!
  4. Eh… Friend! Why is the food not delicious!
  5. Oh ! I’m so sorry. I forgot to put some salt in it.
  6. The foolish man tasted the food.
  7. Wow!!! … this is delicious! I didn’t know salt tasted so good. Wouldn’t it be great if I eat only the salt?
  8. Without a second thought, the fool scrabbed a handful of salt and tossed it into his mouth.
  9. OUGH !!!
  10. The strong saline taste that creates great discomfort, he was immediately taken to the hospital.

Explanation:
Some heretics, having learned that abstaining from food and drink might lead to the path of enlightenment, immediately fasted for seven days or fifteen days. They merely got fatigued and famished, accomplishing nothing in terms of enlightenment. The Buddha discarded this extreme of self-mortification as painful, ignoble and unprofitable. Those heretics are just like that stupid man, who, on account of the pleasant flavor that the salt enhanced, ate salt on an empty stomach only to lose all tastes (and get sick afterwards).
