Unity and Multiplicity

Madhyama

I perceive a cup
Half- filled with water
Is it half-full?
or is it half empty?
Said the chief Abbot:
Both are acceptable
Deleting the word ‘half’ on both sides
Becoming ‘Half equals Empty’
Can they be equal?

The mountain is a mountain;
The mountain is not a mountain
The water is water

The water is not water

Existence is Non-existence

Non-existence is Existence

The ineffable identity of opposites
Smiling at me
Stilling my consciousness

The Unity behind multiplicity
Multiplicity concealing the Unity
All religious seers perceive
the one and only Truth
It cannot be otherwise
A ship sailing on water
A car travelling on a road
An airplane flying in the sky
The Truth existing in eternality

Editor’s Note:

Perceiving the relationship between Unity and multiplicity is the function of all esoteric religions. The intuitive discernment consummates self-redemption of salvation.
