Six Wondrous Gates of Meditation
By Satiman
Observe the Pañcasīlas1
and practise the Dasasīlas2
To avoid evils and do good
Then purify the mind :
Meditate mindfully
with clear awareness
Count the breaths
Breathe in ; breathe out
subdue and calm the scattered mind
Abandon counting of breaths
Follow only the in and our-breaths
appeasing the mind
Note each and every mental object
in silent contemplation
One by one
very mindfully
without grasping
with right mindfulness
and clear awareness
purifying the consciousness
Grasp upon nothing in the world
both internally and externally
developing one-pointedness concentration
Silence the chatter of the mind
Contemplate mindfully
with clear comprehension
Thoughts come and go
Feelings arise and perish
Perceive impermanence
No self or ego to be found
Discern Emptiness
The body painful initially
But not the intuitive mind
That is the inner Heart
Eventually all pains vanish
Emptiness penetrated into
The five aggregates are empty
The Perfection of Wisdom arisen
Become an end-maker of suffering
Dwell on nothing
Redeem the True Self3
Consummate complete silence of mind
Experience the momentary Nirvāṇa
Transcending the duality
between meditator and the meditated
Arriving at the Pure Land
What is Pure Land
Merely the pure, infinite consciousness
This is the True Self
sought earnestly by many
Dwell in fellowship with the Self
The Buddha dwells in him
He dwells in Him too.
This is the complete union with Tathāgata
This is the entrance into non-duality4
Notes :
1. Five Precepts
2. Ten wholesome course of actions
3. Original Self; Buddha-nature
4. Synonymous with union with the Absolute
