A mutimedia performance “Hua-Yen Sutra” at the Cultural Center in June, was the highlight of Buddhist activities in Hong Kong after the departure of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. It was a joint collaboration between Zuni Icosahedron (進念.二十面體) and Buddhist groups. The huge followers at Thich Nhat Hanh’s meditation retreat and the large audience at the “Hua-yen Sutra” performance reflected the needs of people for spiritual teachings which have already taken roots in Hong Kong. “People do not know how to fill the holes in their hearts. In Hong Kong, people are overwhelmed with wealth and material good, and lack of spiritual nurture. ” said Ven. Hin Hung.

Spiritual nuture and wealth are both important, and needed to accumulate over time. With worldly gains, you need investment and savings; with spirial gains, you need dharmma, arts and culture. Most of the people have worked too hard on material gains and neglected their spiritual needs. However, you can utilize material gains to support spiritual growth, because in dharmma both worldly fortune and wisdom are important and essential.
