Heedfulness – The Buddhist Way to Lasting Harmony and Happiness

Wong Weng Hon

Heedfulness is Appᾱmada
It is ever-present mindfulness
It is watchful evasion of the slightest moral flaws
It is the fervent earnestness to commit good and avert the evils.
It is the wise  consciousness of the cattᾱro satipaṭṭhᾱna
Sattᾱro satipaṭṭhᾱna is the Buddhist central practice
Of Four Foundations  of Mindfulness
This key practice is the sole Way to Nibbᾱna

Nibbᾱna is the complete silence of the human mind
The silence is brought about by the complete annihilation
Of self-centric ego of grasping
Upon the five aggregates
As this is I ; this is mine ; this belongs to me
The cessation of grasping obliterate greed, hatred and delusion
The eradication of these three poisons of life
Breeds  lasting peace and happiness to mankind.

Editor’s Note

Cattᾱro Satipaṭṭhᾱna is the perfect mindfulness of detachment of non-dwelling so that the self-centric ego that troubles mankind is not deludedly superimposed in one’s six sense activities in one’s daily, work and social intercourses with others. When the Wisdom of Anattᾱ or Paticcasmauppᾱda is developed and actualized in human life, the power of cattᾱro satippaṭṭhᾱna is the wisdom of Buddha-mind of Anattᾱ. The  Buddha-mind   directs and empowers all human sense activities in the permanent state of Nibbᾱna. In Nibbᾱnic life, harmony and happiness are ever present despite the vicissitudes of upheavals in human life. He criticizes the unjust and yet  his  consciousness  is nibbᾱnically compassionate ; he guides the immoral because he wants to share the wisdom of Anattᾱ;  he redresses the injustice to redeem righteousness and humaneness.  He helps detoxify the toxic contigent conditions (paccayas) that may jeopardize the Unity of  accomplishment and concrescence of the Whole. Protection of the Oneness of Absolute Reality is the lasting harmony and happiness for the holistic Whole. The search for harmony and happiness is to preserve or sustain the holistic Whole of Anattᾱ.
