The relationship between Buddhism and modernism has been reflected in various aspects of Buddhist belief and practice, including the adoption of new historiographical methods, new technologies, and a new awareness of the importance of environmental protection. In this seminar, Dr. Marcus Bingenheimer of the Dharma Drum Buddhist College (法鼓佛教研修學院) at Dharma Drum Mountain (法鼓山) in Taiwan presents some examples of how Buddhism has adapted to and appropriated modern developments in these fields. The seminar was given on January 31st, 2008 as part of the Columbia University Buddhist Studies Seminar series. Prof. Wendi Adamek, the chair of the seminar, introduced Dr. Bingenheimer.
