7. THE FUTURE BUDDHA CUTTING HIS HAIR TO BECOME A MONK


So Siddhartha left the city of Kapilavatthu and by dawn he had crossed the Anoma River. He then gave his horse and all his ornaments to Channa. Siddhartha then cut his hair with his sword on the sandy beach of Anoma and threw it into the sky. The King of the gods received it and placed it in the heaven. Siddhartha then put on the robe of an ascetic and sent Channa back to his father.
